David Williams

David Williams is a native of Greenville, a graduate of J. L. Mann High School and Furman University. His interest in wines sprang from regular attendance at wine tastings at the original Northampton Wines in the late 70’s. He made the leap into the wine business by joining the Fine Wines division of the Ben Arnold Company in the mid 1980’s. He called on the fine wine trade representing a host of California wineries such as De Loach, Robert Mondavi, Hess Collection, and many others. His import portfolio included such greats as Taittinger, Louis Jadot, Castello Banfi, and Penfolds. Although his primary market was fine restaurants, one of his better accounts was Northampton Wines. During 17 years at the wholesale level David excelled at building a premium market in all his accounts. His direct work with winery principals helped create a rich working relationship with many wine sources. The wholesale trade afforded him many opportunities to attend seminars and tastings over the years. During that same period he was a regular presenter at retail tastings and restaurant training sessions.

In 2000 David joined Northampton Wines as a full partner in time to participate in the expansion and move to the Broad Street location. While he has taken primary responsibility for all ordering for the shop, he also leads tastings and wine presentations in and out of the store.

David is a long-time rock musician. Over the years he has often failed to resist the lure of buying the occasional guitar here and there. He is also the proud owner of a large collection of obscure rock recordings.

Like others at Northampton Wines David, has an oft-indulged interest in fine food and wine. He is a regular at wine tastings and special dinners.
